AAVC Awards

The AAVC recognizes exceptional residents and excellence in teaching and clinical research. Nominations come from member institutions, and recipients are selected by the AAVC Awards Committee.

Faculty Achievement in Teaching Award

Presented annually to an AAVC member who has earned national recognition for their contributions to veterinary medicine through teaching. The award recognizes excellence in the classroom and the clinic, leadership in how veterinary medicine is taught, and sustained commitment to the students who will carry the profession forward.

Faculty Achievement in Clinical Research Award

Presented annually to an AAVC member whose clinical research has earned national recognition. The award recognizes work that advances veterinary practice — research that changes how animals are treated and findings that reach beyond a single institution.

Annual Residents’ Award

Presented each year to two residents in the final year of training who have reached a high level of excellence in their specialty. Nominees are evaluated on clinical service, clinical teaching, client communication, and research conducted during the residency. Each institution may nominate one resident, and the award is presented at the winner’s home institution.

Jack W. Judy Distinguished Service Award

The highest honor the AAVC bestows. Named for Jack W. Judy, who helped develop the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program and wrote its first software in the late 1970s, the award recognizes an AAVC member whose effort, enthusiasm, and leadership have shaped the organization itself. It has been given four times.
